Ted Turner, born David Allen Turner in 1950, picked up the guitar at seventeen. In 1969 he helped establish Wishbone Ash as one of its original members. Still active in that group, he contributed to a 1971 session with John Lennon. He stepped away from the industry in 1974, only to reenter it the following year by joining the World Man Band project in New Orleans. Later in 1975 he relocated to Los Angeles, where he spent the next five years handling recording and production duties for a variety of acts that included Al Stewart and George Harrison. In 1980 he returned to England and collaborated with Stewart Copeland before heading back across the Atlantic in 1981. After spending time leading his own band Choice, Turner joined Badfinger in 1982. Following a tour with the group, he spent the next several years on recording sessions with numerous artists, among them Rod Stewart. When Wishbone Ash reunited in 1987, Turner rejoined and stayed until 1994.
