TeeJay fuses the crisp rhythmic delivery of trap with inviting, tuneful choruses as a Jamaican dancehall performer. He surfaced amid the late-2010s dancehall environment, lending vocals to riddims and joining forces with Vybez Kartel, Popcaan, and Jahmiel while scoring successes of his own such as "Uptop Boss." Maintaining a steady stream of individual releases into the subsequent decade, he reached wider audiences through the 2023 Shaggy collaboration "Gyal Dem Time" and the breakthrough solo cut "Drift." TeeJay opened 2024 with the EP I Am Chippy.
Born Timoy Janeyo Jones on October 3, 1994, in Montego Bay, TeeJay ranks as the youngest of four brothers, each of whom pursues music. He entered the studio at age six and devoted his early years to appearances at neighborhood parties and talent contests. After exploring assorted styles and identities through his teens, he embraced a bright, melodic dancehall approach in the mid-2010s and began performing under the name TeeJay. He contributed to several riddims before attaining broader attention with 2018's "Braff," a joint effort alongside Ding Dong. The title track from his 2019 album, "Uptop Boss," registered as a hit and carried TeeJay into the 2020s with heightened momentum.
His output across the following years proved exceptionally abundant, spanning solo numbers such as "Make It Out" and "People" as well as frequent partnerships with Jahyanai, Giggs, Chronic Law, and Rygin King. A standout joint release arrived with 2023's "Gyal Dem Time," recorded with dancehall icon Shaggy. That same year, TeeJay's track "Drift" emerged as a major success and prompted remix editions featuring Davido and French Montana. "Bitcoin" with TroyBoss surfaced at the start of 2024, ahead of the EP project I Am Chippy.
