Biography
Operating out of Paris, France, the synthpop outfit began as little more than a prank when Michael Szpiner on bass, Dorian Dumont handling guitar and synthesizer, and Quentin Delafon supplying vocals launched a MySpace presence during the 2005 Christmas period. Prior musical work and DJ experience among the three quickly lent weight to the venture, and the swelling online audience soon turned the joke into a self-sustaining concern known as the Teenagers. Their synth-driven electronic pop, though outwardly flamboyant, contained sharply defined melodies, a quality confirmed by the 2007 releases “Homecoming” and “Starlett Johansson.” The former single drew the greater share of attention through its blunt English-language verses and the unresolved question of its attitude toward women. The 2008 full-length Reality Check maintained the same forthright tone, yet the approach lost impact across an entire record. The trio has also supplied remixes for Air, Au Revoir Simone, GoodBooks, and New Young Pony Club.
