Hailing from Yorkshire in the United Kingdom, the funk/soul outfit Ten Millennia reworks the rhythmic pulse of late-’80s and early-’90s grooves into a refreshed contemporary form. The ensemble first took shape after frontman Derek posted a notice in a shop window seeking collaborators drawn to soulful, funky sounds; the resulting lineup comprised Wayne Pollock on keys, Russell Henderson on sax, Richard on guitar, Colin on bass, and Jules on drums. Once the group began performing live, they encountered Rosie, who came aboard as a backing singer. Derek’s degenerative condition, however, restricted his time on the road to just two years, although he continued to attend their concerts following his exit. With Derek no longer at the helm, Rosie stepped forward as lead vocalist. By 2016 the band had cultivated a substantial audience, which opened opportunities to tour alongside the Corrs and Jools Holland. The next year they prepared their self-titled debut album, on which Pollock wrote and arranged the bulk of the material while Rosie contributed lyrics and Andy Wright—known for work with Jeff Beck, Simply Red, and Annie Lennox—served as producer. In 2018 the group followed up with the sophomore release Love Won't Wait.
