Emerging from the remnants of multiple Scarborough noise punk acts, Freddy Vinehill-Cliffe (vocals and guitar), Lewis Millward (guitar and synths), and Cameron Moitt (bass) relocated to Leeds after university and launched Thank in 2016. Jack Gordon joined on drums, enabling the quartet to pursue noisy post-punk before Theo Gowans contributed power electronics and noise. The 2017 EP Sexghost Hellscape quickly drew listeners and embedded the group in the Leeds D.I.Y. scene, especially at Chunk Studios and Wharf Chambers. After a pair of one-track singles, the 2019 EP Please merged abrasive noise with dance-rock. Gordon departed in 2021 and Leeds resident Steve Miles took the drum chair. Early the following year the five-piece issued their debut album Thoughtless Cruelty through Exploding in Sound and Box Records, heightening the noise-pop and electronics while Vinehill-Cliffe’s lyrics targeted landlords and Catholicism alike. Gowans left in 2023, after which Millward assumed extra synth duties. Following tour dates the four-piece released the double-A-side single Torture Cube/Dead Dog in a Ditch and spent the rest of the year shaping their sophomore record. A deal with British indie Big Scary Monsters brought I Have a Physical Body That Can Be Harmed out in late 2024, cementing the Leeds outfit’s reputation for agit-rock, noise pop, and power electronics laced with sarcasm and lyrical wit.
