Biography
Early in 1956, Rama added a four-piece ensemble whose approach recalled Bill Haley and His Comets. The group chose to record Chuck Berry’s “Roll Over Beethoven” at the same moment Berry issued his Chess Records original. Victory naturally went to the songwriter, an outcome made predictable by the awkward “do-wop do-wop do-wop” backing chorus and the Four Neat Guys-type vocals. The 4 Chaps soon vanished after that fleeting attempt at lasting renown.
