Ace Kefford served as a secondary member in the Move’s original lineup, handling bass duties and backup vocals—including one lead vocal on “Yellow Rainbow”—throughout 1968. He departed the group at some point during that year and soon afterward took the role of frontman for the short-lived Ace Kefford Stand, which he later described as primarily a covers outfit. The ensemble released a lone single, “For Your Love” b/w “Gravy Booby Jam,” on Atlantic in 1969. Its A-side stretched out into a heavy, rather uninspired reading of the Yardbirds classic, while the B-side, assembled the evening prior to the session, came across as an unremarkable fusion of psychedelic and progressive rock marked by eccentric guitar work. The remaining Ace Kefford Stand personnel had previously operated under the name Young Blood and cut four singles for Pye; the group’s most prominent figure was drummer Cozy Powell. Following the single, Dave McTavish from Tintern Abbey came aboard, prompting a name change to Big Bertha, which issued one record.
