In 1991, singer/guitarist Mauricio Belalcazar established the Colombian death/metal band Angel Negro, bringing drummer Alberto Escobar and bassist William Monroy into the original lineup. Silvio Herrera stepped in as the group's lead vocalist the next year. Angel Negro captured its first album, Sala 8, during 1994 for release on Antiphonas Records, after which the self-produced Guillain Barre appeared in June 1996. Around the same period William Monroy and Alberto Escobar exited, with Andrés Mora assuming bass and Fabián Aguirre taking over drums.
