Biography
The B Girls, a Canadian rock outfit, came together in 1977. This predominantly female ensemble issued several albums, supplied backing vocals on various releases by fellow acts, and completed a modest amount of touring before disbanding toward the close of 1981. Its lineup consisted of lead guitarist Renee Chetsky, bassist Cynthia Ross, drummer Mark Saddy, vocalist Locasta Ross, and guitarist Xenia Splawinski. The group’s first album, Live & Kicking, appeared around 1978, followed in 1980 by the sophomore effort B-Day. Nearly two decades afterward, the collection Who Says Girls Can't Rock assembled previously unreleased studio tracks cut during the band’s brief run along with selected live performances. These recordings, which blend pop and rock with early-punk accents, feature the numbers “Angel Doesn't Shoot a Gun,” “Fun at the Beach,” “Long Distance Love,” “Two Hearts,” and “Heartbreaker.”
