Biography
Assembled by producer, engineer, and multi-instrumentalist Mark Tucker—whose résumé includes Pentangle and PJ Harvey—The Band of Love unites an array of British folk musicians and vocalists into a supergroup. Its central roster, comprising Devon-based Jim Causley, the folk duo Phillip Henry and Hannah Martin, Yorkshire-based Alice Jones, and 2013 BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award winner Greg Russell, convened with Tucker in 2017. The participants sought to fuse disco and folk, genres whose origins both lie in eras of social and political upheaval, by rendering well-known disco tracks in a traditional British folk idiom. The resulting album, Folk Fever, which contains versions of Hot Chocolate’s “I’ll Put You Together Again,” Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive,” and Donna Summer’s “I Feel Love” alongside other selections, appeared in early 2018.
