Biography
In the 1950s, the Good Time Jazz label captured the performances of The Banjo Kings, a group whose style stood out for its slightly corny appeal among their recordings. Dick Roberts and Red Roundtree, both banjoists, established the ensemble during 1951, incorporating a rotating third banjoist—either Joe Heimlich, Ernie Anderson, or Vito Mumolo—alongside a rhythm section typically featuring pianist Stan Wrightsman on its three instruments. Appearances at Dixieland festivals followed, as did multiple recordings that later yielded the late-1980s CD compilation Favorites. Rags, earlier pop numbers dating back before the 1920s, and communal singalongs formed the core of The Banjo Kings' repertoire.
