Biography
Montreal-based musicians Addy Weitzman and Patrick A. Boivin comprise the Beat Escape, a duo whose dark-hued electronic pop carries a pronounced new wave sensibility. The pair first connected while enrolled in university video classes devoted to abstract psychedelic imagery, later sharpening their abilities by DJ'ing around Montreal and composing tracks in tandem. Weitzman had already gained recognition through Footprintz, a Montreal electronic act guided by a similar aesthetic. Once that project lost momentum, the two combined their gear inside a shared studio and began laying down material as the Beat Escape. After signing with Bella Union, they issued their debut EP in 2016. The following year was spent refining their first LP in the same space before the recordings were forwarded to Finland for mixing by DJ/producer Jori Hulkkonen. Life Is Short the Answer's Long appeared in April 2018.
