Biography
The Bel Airs originated in Columbia, Missouri during 1981 when brothers Dick Pruitt and Dave Pruitt assembled the lineup to pursue modern blues laced with soul. Raspy, expressive vocals from Dick Pruitt combine with slicing guitar lines from Dave Pruitt, while former Paladins and James Harman Band drummer Michael Cherry supplies the drive; together they have forged an explosive stage show one critic compared to the Everly Brothers playing the blues. Their first album, Need Me a Car, appeared on Blind Pig Records in 1984, with Dangerous Curves following on Borrowed Records in 1991, HooDoo Party on Blueberry Hill Records in 1999, and Got Love on Hightone Records in 2005. The group also supported Johnnie Johnson, Chuck Berry’s pianist, on his debut solo album Blue Hand Johnny, issued by Pulsar Records in 1987.
