Biography
Scant information survives about this folk ensemble from the 1920s, yet their account of tenant farming life, "Down on Penny's Farm," which they recorded for Columbia in 1929, later resurfaced through numerous interpreters of the folk revival, among them Bob Dylan, who recast it as "Maggie's Farm." Dylan appears to have encountered the number through its placement in Harry Smith's 1952 collection Anthology of American Folk Music.
