Rhino Records put out a 1994 EP under the name "The Benzedrine Monks of Santo Dominica" that served as a playful jab at the Benedictine Monks of Santo Domingo. Rather than performing the venerable sacred works associated with the real Spanish monastery, the Benzedrines steer clear of those traditional liturgies altogether. They instead drape the sparse, echoing textures of a cappella Gregorian chant over contemporary hits such as "We Will Rock You," "Smells Like Teen Spirit," and "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy?" The Benzedrines never approached the Top 20 in the manner of the Benedictine Monks, nor did they come anywhere near that level of chart success.
