Biography
Formed in Derby, England during 1988, the quartet known as The Beyond concentrated on intricate heavy metal with strong thrash leanings. John Whitby handled vocals, Andy Gatford played guitar, Jim Kersey covered bass, and Neil Cooper sat behind the drums. Multiple years of club dates across Britain allowed the group to sharpen its elaborate style before signing with Harvest, an EMI subsidiary, which issued the album Crawl in 1992. That release drew scant notice, so the band moved to Music for Nations and delivered its follow-up, Chasm, in 1993. Continued public apathy pushed the musicians to adopt the name Gorilla in an effort to begin anew, yet two poorly received EPs over the subsequent two years led them to disband for good.
