The Black Halos

In the 1990s, countless acts revived punk, yet Vancouver's Black Halos drew from an earlier period distinct from the Clash or Buzzcocks, favoring the flashy, gritty rock of the New York Dolls, the raw noise of the Stooges, and the defiant attitude of the Dead Boys. The lineup includes vocalist Billy Hopeless, guitarists Rich Jones and Jay Millette, bassist Matt Camirand, and drummer Rob Zgaljic. After issuing their self-titled debut on Stay Young Die Pretty, the band shifted to Sub Pop and put out the Jane Doe/Russian Roulette seven-inch along with a second album produced by Jack Endino. The Violent Years reached listeners in spring 2001.
