Lily Lizotte, the singer, songwriter, and producer who first recorded under the name Lila Gold, surfaced in 2020 as the Blossom with an eclectic and layered sonic approach that merges dream pop, trap, shoegaze, grunge, and folk. Their first EP, 97 Blossom, followed in 2021.
Lizotte entered the world in Sydney, Australia, and faced social hurdles while growing up non-binary as the child of a Southeast Asian immigrant, seeking belonging in a white-majority environment. Encouragement arrived through artistically inclined parents, including their father, the ARIA award-winning rocker Johnny Diesel, alongside an inborn musical gift that surfaced in tracks exploring battles with depression and anxiety.
After moving to New York City, Lizotte began creating and tracking material as Lila Gold, unveiling the debut single "China Chalet." Three further experimental pop tracks, "Loveless," "Big Sad Eyes," and "Happy Idiot," surfaced across 2018 and 2019, before a relocation to Los Angeles in 2020.
Seeking renewal in both life and work, Lizotte selected the Blossom alias and formed a bond with left-field rap artists Brockhampton. Partnership with members Kevin Abstract, Matt Champion, Romil Hemnani, and Jabari Manwa produced the potent debut EP, 97 Blossom, the year after.
