Biography
To mark Blue Note Records' 70th anniversary, the celebrated jazz imprint assembled a seven-piece group called the Blue Note 7, commissioning the ensemble both to record and to tour. The lineup unites pianist Bill Charlap, saxophonist Ravi Coltrane, trumpeter Nicholas Payton, saxophonist Steve Wilson, guitarist Peter Bernstein, bassist Peter Washington, and drummer Lewis Nash. Drawing on arrangements supplied by several of its own members, the septet confines its repertoire exclusively to compositions associated with Blue Note Records. The Blue Note 7 unveiled its debut album, Mosaic: A Celebration, in 2009.
