The Boys with the Perpetual Nervousness drew from a long-running strain of power pop rooted in the Byrds’ introspective jangle when they issued their debut full-length, Dead Calm, in 2019. Their next effort, Songs from Another Life in 2021, leaned more noticeably toward 1990s bands such as the Lemonheads and Teenage Fanclub yet kept a gentle character all their own. One year afterward the group revisited that same melodic territory on The Third Wave Of….

Formed as a partnership between Andrew Taylor of Scotland’s Dropkick and Gonzalo Marco of Spain’s El Palacio de Linares—both veteran indie-pop figures—the project centers on 12-string guitar textures. Dead Calm earned widespread praise and quickly exhausted a limited vinyl pressing issued by Pretty Olivia Records in Spain. For the follow-up the duo moved to Madrid-based Bobo Integral; the album was tracked in separate locations, with Taylor working from his Edinburgh rehearsal space and Marco recording at producer Yon Vidaur’s San Sebastián studios. Vidaur was again enlisted for 2022’s The Third Wave Of…, which includes a duet with Mary Lou Lord.
