The Brilliant Mistakes

Origin: U.S.A
Listen on Coda
Formed in the mid-’90s, the Brilliant Mistakes is a New York City quartet whose sound merges melodic pop with eclectic touches. Alan Walker handles vocals and keyboards, Erik Philbrook plays bass, Andy Resnick handles guitar, and Mick Wood sits behind the drums. Walker and Philbrook first connected through their shared passion for vintage Motown and British pop singles; once Resnick and Wood completed the lineup, the band became a steady presence on Manhattan’s club circuit. In both 1997 and 1998 the group reached the semifinals of Musician magazine’s “Best Unsigned Band” contest and appeared at the CMJ Music Festival. Their debut album, All Hands & The Cook, arrived in 1998 on the band’s own Aunt Mimi’s Records label and was reissued the following year.
