Biography
Drawn by a wish to pursue musical avenues apart from the high-speed thrash style of his well-known group, Overkill’s D.D. Verni launched Bronx Casket Co. in 1999, creating an outlet for his slower, gloomier compositions steeped in goth rock. A roster of seasoned heavy-metal players—ex-Misfits vocalist Myke Hideous, guitarist Jack Frost of Seven Witches and Metalium, keyboardist Charlie Calv, and drummer Tim Mallare, who also performs with Overkill—joined the project, resulting in a self-titled first album that offered a lighter, more inviting contrast to the sound of fellow New Yorkers Type O Negative. Two years afterward came the band’s similarly engaging second effort, Sweet Home Transylvania.
