The Brummies trace their roots to a small Alabama community sharing the name of England’s second city, though their sound leans far from the rustic traditions one might expect from that background. Two founding members, Jacob Bryant and John Davidson, had already built careers penning country material, most notably the Band Perry’s chart-topping 2013 single “Done,” yet the trio’s first full-length effort, Eternal Reach, emerged in 2018 as a polished pop album drawing equally from classic rock, AOR, and yacht-rock influences.

Bryant and Davidson initially teamed up strictly as writers. Their earliest major credit arrived when “Done” reached the top of Billboard’s Country Airplay list in 2013. Soon afterward they stepped onstage together under the name John & Jacob, issuing a self-released album in 2014 and landing the track “Be My Girl” on the Nashville television series. Their profile rose sharply after securing an opening slot on Kacey Musgraves’s Same Trailer Different Park trek that same year. During those dates they began working with Trevor Davis, who joined full-time once the tour concluded in 2015; the group then adopted the name the Brummies, borrowed from British slang for Birmingham residents.

Managed by Sandbox—the firm also guiding Musgraves and Little Big Town—the band maintained a busy live schedule while finishing its debut. Eternal Reach appeared in April 2018 and included a guest vocal from Musgraves on the single “Drive Away.”
