Formed as a quartet in Milwaukee during 1996 under the name "The Buzz," the group devoted an extended stretch to rehearsals while developing original material. Frontman Ryan Mueller, employed at the time as a construction worker, steadily accumulated songs to assemble a viable live set. After adopting the name Buzzhorn in 1997, the band launched performances across Milwaukee’s club circuit. Self-producing their debut album on a severely limited budget in 1998 produced the release "A Complete Package Of Action-Packed Tragedies," which earned immediate praise from local critics and showcased a potent live presentation. In 2000 Buzzhorn issued an EP independently and extended its touring radius to encompass Chicago and Kansas City. An Atlantic Records representative caught the act, leading to a contract signed in January 2001. Mueller resigned from construction work, after which the band relocated to Los Angeles to record. The year 2002 brought the debut single "Ordinary," followed by "Disconnected" in July. Observers have highlighted the quartet’s skill at merging "melodic moodiness and stadium-sized power." Buzzhorn has drawn comparisons to Creed, Alice In Chains, and Stone Temple Pilots while touring alongside Monster Magnet.
