The Cancer Conspiracy is a Burlington, Vermont-based instrumental rock trio whose name references an alleged scheme by elements within the medical establishment to withhold a cancer cure and thereby preserve the healthcare sector’s profitability. Formed in 2000, the group features Brent Frattini on bass, Greg Beadle on drums, keyboards, and saxophone, and Daryl Rabidoux on guitar. Beyond the provocative moniker, the band is chiefly recognized for adapting the progressive-rock aesthetic of the 1970s—drawing audible inspiration from King Crimson, Brian Eno, and Pink Floyd—into a sound aimed squarely at the punk and hardcore audience. The members themselves emerged from that milieu, which also accounts for their association with Big Wheel Recreation, the imprint that issued their debut full-length, The Audio Medium, in 2002. Before that album appeared, the trio had already self-released a self-titled EP in 2001; Big Wheel later assumed distribution duties for the recording as well.
