Biography
The Christopher Dean Band, fronted by Christopher Dean—who had previously played guitar and sung with Big Jack Johnson—introduced Chicago, Texas, and Delta blues to listeners across central New Jersey. The band’s first recording, Dogged ’n Driven, appeared in 2001 and illustrated its wide-ranging take on the blues. A native of Edison, New Jersey, Dean learned guitar from his older brother, bassist David Foti. After finishing high school in 1992, he immersed himself in an array of guitar idioms that ranged from jazz and folk to country, pop, and blues. Following several years leading his own trio, Dean and Foti both entered the Oilers, the band of Mississippi-born Johnson. They remained for four years before leaving to launch the Christopher Dean Band.
