Biography
Forming an indie pop and post-punk trio in Leeds, England, City Yelps feature guitarist/vocalist Shaun Alcock of the Big Eyes Family Players and the Real Losers, drummer Valentina Brunetto, and bassist Ged McGurn, formerly of Boyracer. Noisy, shambolic garage pop songs define their output, shaped strongly by the Swell Maps and the Flying Nun roster while they uphold a D.I.Y. method for both creating and issuing recordings. Their introduction came in 2013 through the three-song EP Crackle!Fuzz!Pop! No. 2 on U.K. indie label Odd Box Records. Next arrived the 2014 cassette Cheap Psych via the band’s own Horsey Music, then a 7" single within Odd Box’s 100 Club Series. The debut album The City Yelps Half Hour surfaced in 2016 on LP through Odd Box/Horsey Music and on CD via American label Emotional Response.
