Formed as a jam band by Col. Bruce Hampton alongside singer, guitarist, and banjo player Bobby Lee Rodgers, the Codetalkers grew out of their early partnership. Rodgers had already completed five years as an instructor at Boston’s Berklee School of Music in the 1990s when he relocated to Atlanta, GA, in 1999. A chance meeting with the veteran musician—previously of the Hampton Grease Band and the Aquarium Rescue Unit—took place at a Halloween party, after which the pair began performing together under the Codetalkers name. Their debut, Bootleg Live!, surfaced in 2000, and a self-titled studio album followed in 2001 before being reissued in 2004 as Deluxe Edition. Following several personnel shifts, the rhythm section stabilized in 2004 around bassist Ted Pecchio and drummer Tyler Greenwell. That lineup captured Now, issued on June 13, 2006.
