In April 1995 Edward Pond and Joseph Moran launched this Toronto-area outfit. The group later aligned with Neil Leyton and Stacey Straye, quickly establishing itself as a prominent act on the Canadian indie circuit. High-energy live shows paired with a firm D.I.Y. ethos brought the band widespread critical notice, highlighted by its support slot for the Manic Street Preachers on the 1996 Canadian leg of that group’s tour. First album The Sunday Refugees earned further acclaim and landed on multiple Toronto year-end best-of lists. Repeated lineup shifts and complications with the band’s label ultimately triggered its early dissolution. Straye and Pond subsequently joined the Toronto glam act Robin Black & the Intergalactic Rock Stars, while Leyton maintains a solo career and runs his own imprint, Fading Ways Music.
