Biography
The Cookers, a jazz supergroup assembled from veteran players, deliver intense and vigorous post-bop rooted in the style of Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers and Horace Silver's ensembles from the 1960s. The band came together in 2007 with an original roster that featured saxophonists Billy Harper and Craig Handy, trumpeters Eddie Henderson and David Weiss, pianist George Cables, bassist Cecil McBee, and drummer Billy Hart. Their output includes the albums Warriors and Cast the First Stone, both from 2010, as well as Believe from 2012. The ensemble resurfaced in 2014 with its fourth studio release, Time & Time Again, which introduced saxophonist Donald Harrison. They followed that project two years later with The Call of the Wild and Peaceful Heart.
