Biography
The Crescent's working-class members originated in Huyton's impoverished district of Liverpool, England, where an unforeseen encounter with Lee Mavers, the former frontman of The La's, redirected their paths. Formation occurred during secondary school, fueled by collective devotion to Oasis. At fourteen, bassist Sean Longworth and drummer Joey Harrison assembled the initial lineup specifically for a school talent show, after which guitarist Karl Rowlands joined. The group soon connected with the reclusive figure Mavers, whose influence shifted from guidance to domination and triggered repeated breakups followed by reconciliations. With the arrival of the new millennium, the musicians had exited school and shed Mavers' constraining presence. Vocalist Wayne Whitfield's inclusion then established a stable group chemistry. Management and a recording contract with Hut Recordings materialized by January 2001, placing the members, still only twenty-one, on the verge of realizing their rock ambitions. The band's inaugural single, "On the Run," surfaced in May 2002, with "The Test of Time" appearing the next month.
