Biography
Formed in Chapel Hill, NC, the Curtains of Night reduce sludge and doom to their core components. Guitarist and vocalist Nora Rodgers joins drummer Lauren Fitzpatrick in the duo, which bypasses both the genre’s rising reliance on swirling synthesizers and the use of bass altogether, relying instead on thundering drums paired with thick, droning guitar routed through homemade amps. The band channels the spirit of Southern doom as explored by figures such as Stephen O’Malley and Greg Anderson (Khanate, Burning Witch, Goatsnake), drawing listeners forward through patient, crawling riffs that expand gradually across hypnotic drumming before striking with Rodgers’ anguished vocals. Their debut full-length, Lost House, appeared in 2008 via Holidays for Quince.
