The Dead Science

In the closing months of 2000, The Dead Science assembled after an emo band claimed their earlier name, the Sweet Science. Before that shift, Sam Mickens (vocals, guitar) and siblings Jherek (contrabass) and Korum Bischoff (drums) had performed across multiple jazz and experimental projects, then issued the Glactose EP themselves while still using the original moniker. Their music merges avant-garde jazz with the noir-tinged pop and rock of U.S. Maple or Nick Cave, reflecting a broad range of influences. Absolutely Kosher brought out the band's first full-length effort, Submariner, in 2003. Sam Mickens and Jherek Bischoff also sustained parallel work in the experimental outfit Xiu Xiu.
