Biography
The Dead Trees emerged from Boston, Massachusetts, merging alt-country influences with a straightforward rock & roll sensibility. Longtime friends Matthew Borg on guitar, Noah Rubin on drums, Tad Dahlhoff on bass, and Michael Ian Cummings handling vocals and guitar assembled in December 2006 to lay down several tracks penned by Cummings. Two weeks of work in a Massachusetts basement produced the Fort Music EP. Satisfied with the recordings, the musicians formally united as the Dead Trees, left Boston behind, and settled in Portland, OR. Early 2008 saw the EP’s release, after which the group expanded its audience through a national tour alongside Albert Hammond, Jr. Their first full studio album, King of Rosa, followed in October 2008.
