Biography
Multiple traditional jazz ensembles have performed under the moniker Dixie Stompers. A Midwestern septet adopted the name for recordings made throughout the middle and later portion of the 1950s. From 1944 until 1965 a Belgian septet also operated under the same banner, enlisting Benny Waters for a single date on soprano saxophone and clarinet while he supplied several arrangements. Two additional units employed the title as well: a Dutch sextet that issued a pair of singles in 1962 and an American outfit directed by cornetist Steve Lane that produced one album on Major Minor Records.
