Prior to founding the Dorians in 1968 alongside bassist Bob Nixon, vocalist John Unger had performed with a pair of Ontario groups, the Small Town Boys and the Living Ends. The band issued “If I Were 21 and You Were 24” the next year, yet only achieved wider notice once “Psychedelic Lipstick” scored a hit abroad. Their first North American success followed in 1970 with “Help for My Waiting.”
