Biography
Brooklyn's the Double blend jarring textures, free-flowing rock grooves, and catchy vocal hooks into a distinctive sound. Initially a duo, the group cut its debut album, the folk-noise hybrid Loose Crochet, in 2002 before expanding into a quartet featuring vocalist and bassist David Greenhill, drummer and programmer Jeff McLeod, keyboardist Jacob Morris, and guitarist and vocalist Donald Bearman. On Palm Fronds, their first release as a full lineup in 2004, the band adopted tighter arrangements and added electronic and musique concrète touches after McLeod's hand injury limited him to nontraditional drumming. Later that year the quartet joined Blonde Redhead and Interpol for U.K. dates and taped a Peel Session. By early 2005 the Double had joined Matador Records and started tracking a third album with producer Steve Revitte, pausing only for a South by Southwest showcase and a run of shows alongside Ratatat. Performances shared with the Go-Betweens, the Mountain Goats, and Comets on Fire paved the way for the autumn arrival of Loose in the Air.
