Biography
Characterizing their sound as "Americana with a punch line," the Drews revolve around a shifting roster of supporting musicians anchored by the husband-and-wife core of Andrew and Jen DiMartino. The pair first crossed paths on a Seattle beach in late 1992 and soon launched into collaborative writing and live performances. Andrew already possessed years of guitar experience, while Jen brought classical piano training and a drama degree yet moved to bass and percussion before the band took shape. At times expanding to nine players, the Drews took the stage at assorted Seattle-area spots and booked European engagements. Their debut release, Strategically Interrupted Silence, appeared in 2001 and showcased numerous musicians who had performed with the group across earlier years. The album drew positive notices both in the United States and abroad, securing regular rotation on Radio ATL in Bree, Belgium. In 2002 the Drews slimmed to a trio after Chris Adams, handling snare and percussion, had become a permanent addition the year before.
