Formed in Brooklyn, the indie rock group known as the End of the World featured Stefan Marolachakis handling vocals and guitar, alongside guitarist Benjamin Smith and drummer Robert Stillman. In May 2005 they put out a four-track EP bearing their own name, which generated some local attention in the Brooklyn area, with The Village Voice singling out the track "The Little Theater" as "the best song to come out of Brooklyn last year." That same song also appeared in the 2004 movie The Manchurian Candidate. After touring nationwide, the band took up residence in a Maine house to compose further songs, before traveling to the Key Club studio in Benton Harbor, Michigan, for their first full album. Once bassist Adam Chilenski came aboard, the End of the World put out the album You're Making It Come Alive in autumn 2006 via Flameshovel. They subsequently played a number of shows alongside Cursive and Jeremy Enigk.
