Formed in Washington, D.C., the Enjoyables featured an ever-shifting lineup that at different points encompassed Keni St. Lewis, Sidney Hall, Carl "Max" Kid, James Johnson, William Britton, and Gerald Richardson. Frequent personnel turnover was typical for such youthful ensembles. The group secured a contract with Capitol Records in 1964, yet the only release to surface was the single "Push a Little Harder" b/w "We'll Make a Way," with all material penned by St. Lewis. Two years afterward the same singer and Britton placed "Shame" b/w "I'll Take You Back" on the Shrine imprint, a Washington-based concern run by Raynoma Gordy-Singleton and Eddie Singleton; the pairing marked their second Shrine appearance, following an earlier single they had cut with the Cairos. The record failed to generate sales, and two further years elapsed before any former members resurfaced, this time recording as the Statlers for Sue 2 Records on the coupling "It's a Hurting Thing" b/w "My School." Neither the Enjoyables nor the Statlers achieved traction, after which the participants went their separate ways. Britton joined Famon Johnson of the Cairos to supply the backing vocals on Billy Stewart’s "I Do You Love"; Stewart, himself a D.C. native, regularly enlisted local singers for both studio sessions and tours. St. Lewis subsequently performed with Frankie Karl and the Dreams, then concentrated on songwriting, supplying hits for Michael Jackson, the Sylvers, Tavares, Gene Chandler ("I Fooled You This Time"), and additional artists.
