Biography
Country rock group The Felsons came together in Edinburgh, Scotland, during 1995 when Dean Owens, born in Scotland and serving as guitarist and vocalist, joined forces with bassist Kevin McGuire. The pair had already been delivering country material at neighborhood pubs when a friend who ran a studio urged them to make a record. Their debut album, One Step Ahead Of The Posse, offered a direct and engaging country set that mirrored the energy of their live appearances. Guitarist and mandolinist Calais Brown plus drummer Keith Burns were then added, forming a quartet that self-released the 1997 mini-album Lasso The Moon. A deal with G2, the Greentrax Records offshoot, yielded Glad, on which indie rock and folk touches were woven in with striking results. The quartet later shared bills with leading US act the Mavericks during a UK tour, yet mounting critical regard could not forestall a 2001 hiatus once principal songwriter Owens elected to launch a solo career. Owens has still employed the Felsons name for select shows.
