Active from the mid-1970s until the early 1990s, the Fieldstones stood out as rare survivors of Memphis's local blues tradition, which had largely faded away by the close of the 1950s. Their electric blues incorporated soul and rock elements in a gritty, unpolished manner, featuring dual guitars upfront and a gritty, solid rhythm that echoed the raw Mississippi juke joint style later captured by Fat Possum during the 1990s. Though they cut tracks for David Evans' Highwater imprint throughout the 1980s, the group failed to gain significant recognition beyond Memphis before calling it quits in the early 1990s.
