Biography
The Flying Tigers fuse the raw energy of traditional rock and roll with the force of hybrid heavy metal techniques and aesthetic approaches, carving out unique rhythms within the alternative metal scene. Ryan Martin, who handles vocals and guitar, teamed up with drummer Gary Benson to form the Flying Tigers after spending years performing in various groups throughout the Los Angeles region. In late 2000, bassist Dorian Heartsong, previously a member of Powerman 5000, joined the pair, completing the group's roster. Following their establishment, the band began consistent live performances, which included supporting the Cult for much of the summer of 2001 while touring extensively. Once the tour concluded, the three musicians returned to Los Angeles to develop their highly anticipated first album. They collaborated with producer Brendan O'Brien, known for his work with Rage Against the Machine and Stone Temple Pilots, dedicating the subsequent months to recording their debut release. Following this period of focused effort, the band issued Flying Tigers in 2002, which brought them increased recognition and praise.
