Comprising four Dutch multimedia artists—Simon Posthuma, Marijke Posthuma, Josje Leeger, and Barry Finch—the Fool first emerged among the Amsterdam Provos. Those situationist pranksters disrupted mid-'60s Holland with antics that included distributing free white bicycles across Amsterdam streets and hurling smoke bombs at Princess Beatrix's 1966 wedding. Following their move to the U.K., the foursome took the name the Fool and gained design work from clients that encompassed model Patti Boyd (later Clapton and Harrison) and Cream. Their psychedelic LP covers encompassed the Incredible String Band's 5000 Spirits or the Layers of the Onion, the Move's self-titled debut album, and the Hollies' Evolution. Work with the Beatles stood out most, covering the decoration of London's Apple boutique plus psychedelic painting on a Rolls-Royce and grand piano for John Lennon. In 1969 the group pivoted to music and brought in Graham Nash to produce their only album. The Mercury release went nowhere, after which the group disappeared. Rev-Ola reissued the self-titled album in 2005 with two bonus tracks added.
