Biography
In the Los Angeles suburb of La Habra, The Funeral Pyre assembled during 2001. Operating then as Envilent, they delivered the EP Whispering to the Shadows in 2002. The 2003 demo October signaled their adoption of the present name, after which vocalist John Strachan, guitarist James Joyce, keyboardist Daniella Jones, bassist Adam Campbell, and drummer Alex Hernandez tracked their first album, Immersed by the Flames of Mankind, issued independently in 2004. Two years later The Nature of Betrayal arrived, another self-released recording that presented the same balanced mix of rapid, intense yet melodic black and death metal. Prosthetic Records subsequently signed the band and reissued The Nature of Betrayal in 2007. Following a demanding U.S. touring schedule with Trivium, Vader, and 3 Inches of Blood, keyboardist Jones was replaced by second guitarist Justin J-Bone, steering the group toward a stricter black metal approach on the Prosthetic release Wounds in summer 2008.
