Biography
Formed not as a conventional band but as a fluid recording project, The Fusion Syndicate enlists a shifting roster of elite international players. Its charged sound fuses jazz fusion, funk, prog rock, and further styles. Billy Sherwood—founder of The Prog Collective, composer, and bassist with Yes—established the project in 2012. Sherwood composed the material, recruited the musicians, and oversaw recording and mixing for a distinguished assembly of prog, fusion, funk, and rock figures that included Rick Wakeman, Nik Turner, Gavin Harrison, Steve Hillage of 777, John Etheridge of Soft Machine, and additional notables. Purple Pyramid issued the self-titled debut that year.
In 2020 guitarist, producer, and composer Fernando Perdomo assumed creative direction. He retained several veterans from the 2012 sessions while adding Jah Wobble, Al DiMeola, Alphonso Johnson, and Jan Akkerman. Two albums emerged in 2023. A Speedway on Saturn's Rings arrived in June to positive notice, especially for the single, a cover of Gil Scott-Heron's "The Bottle" featuring Perdomo, original participant Brian Jackson, Bootsy Collins, and Carmine Appice. November brought Beautiful Horizon, ten more tracks drawn from the same sessions and performed by an expanded lineup.
