Seattle punk rockers the Gloryholes fuse the sneering propulsion of classic punk with garage rock’s catchy riffs and swagger, delivering a volatile, high-octane blast ideal for acts of youthful destruction or frenzied pogo dancing. Formed in 2000, the band was launched by vocalist Doug White—previously the frontman of the Secret Six—alongside guitarists Shelly Corwin and Chris Kenan plus bassist Melanine Belanger. Their inaugural drummer, Ward Reeder, appeared on both the Gloryholes’ 2001 debut single and their first full-length album, 2002’s Knock You Up, which punk legend Tim Kerr produced while Seattle mainstay Jack Endino handled engineering duties. Reeder had already exited by the time the group prepared their sophomore LP, The Gloryholes Want a Divorce, with Eric Fenner taking over the drum chair; however, Fenner’s concurrent commitments to another act prompted his departure before the album’s release so he could focus on his other project, the Ones. Johnny Machine subsequently assumed drumming responsibilities.
