Biography
The Goa Express, an English indie rock outfit, alternate between propulsive garage rock and the orchestral psychedelia of ELO, resulting in a sound that feels simultaneously urgent and euphoric. The quintet originates from Calder Valley along the Lancashire-Yorkshire boundary and comprises siblings James Douglas Clarke on vocals and guitar plus Joe Clarke on keyboards, with Joey Stein handling guitar, Naham Muzaffar on bass, and Sam Launder behind the drums. Their first release, the 2019 track “The Day,” arrived just before the COVID-19 pandemic stalled their progress. Seeking to restore their creative drive, the musicians reached out to Nathan Saoudi of Fat White Family, whose production input helped rekindle their momentum and yielded the 2021 singles “Second Time” and “Overpass,” with “Everybody in the U.K.” arriving the following year.
