Biography
Canadian indie rock collective Golden Dogs came together in Toronto, Ontario, during 2000, built around lead vocalist and guitarist Dave Azzaloni, keyboardist/vocalist/percussionist Jessica Grassia, drummer Taylor Knox, guitarist/vocalist Carlin Nicholson, and bassist Stew Heyduk. Their first album, Everything in 3 Parts, appeared in 2003 via the Canadian imprint True North. Big Eye Little Eye followed in 2006 and later secured an American release on Yep Roc. Upon completing a tour, the group found itself without a label or its original bassist, prompting a temporary hiatus. Azzaloni and Grassia reconnected with longtime associates Carlin Nicholson and Mike O’Brien—who perform together as Zeus and operate their own studio—and soon began shaping fresh Golden Dogs songs. Knox returned to the fold, allowing the extended sessions to coalesce into a full record. Coat of Arms surfaced in July 2010 on the newly established Toronto label Nevado. Around the same period, guitarists James Robertson and bassist Jay McCarrol joined the lineup for live dates.
