Originating in Oklahoma during 1992, The Great Divide came together with Mike McClure on vocals and lead guitar, Kelley Green handling bass, Scotte Lester on rhythm guitar, and J.J. Lester behind the drums. Early experience came from supporting shows by Chris LeDoux, Tracy Lawrence, and the Bellamy Brothers, which sharpened the band before they delivered their independent debut Goin' for Broke in 1994. Break in the Storm appeared as the second LP in 1998, and Revolutions followed as the third album the next year. Afterglow surfaced in 2000, having been recorded inside Oklahoma’s historic Will Rogers Theater.
